BELLAGIO AND SURROUNDINGS

Bellagio, known as “Pearl of the Lake”, is an ideal starting point for your excursions and activities.

A walking around town center typical cobbled streets and ascending will be the occasion to discover cafes, bars, restaurants, shops and many points of interest as promontory edge panoramic point “La Punta” and San Giacomo cathedral right in town center and the pedestrian area at lake promenade.

In particular we suggest following points of interest and excursions suitable to everyone:

Madonna del Ghisallo (Magreglio)

You can get there: by bus, car and bicycle

Sanctuary dedicated to Holy Virgin of Ghisallo Procuress of Cyclists, inside the little church there are rare historical memorabilia as Coppi, Bartali and Magni champions bicycles, theirs and other champions jerseys, etcetera.

A cycling museum is a few steps from the sanctuary.

If you are a cyclist the route from Visgnola to Ghisallo is a “to be done once in life”.

San Primo Mountain Peak (Bellagio)

You can get there: by bus or car

Starting from Parco Monte San Primo fraction, free public parking is available, it’s an easy and suitable to everyone hiing path. reach the ridge where you’ll walk almost on plain with just a last ascending before the peak. From there a breathtaking view extending all over the lake, the alps and Milan plains opens before your eyes.

Greenway dei Patriarchi or “Sentiero del Viandante” (Varenna)

You can get there: by ferry

Starting from Varenna, panoramic walk, it develops along the upper part of the coastline on ancient paths surrounded by nature offering a breathtaking view at the lake and it ends in Bellano where it is due a visit to famous “Orrido”, a natural gorge with gigantic potholes and caverns. From Bellano you’ll be able to come back by ferry.

Villa Melzi d’Eril Gardens (Bellagio)

You can get there: by walk in 15 minutes

Awarded with “Most nice Italian Park” prize in 2016, it is located at the end of Bellagio promenade, admission is allowed by paid ticket.

It develops along the coastline with promontory hills at his back showing different architectural points of interest and homonymous villa along with its small Napoleonic museum.

The garden, one of the most precious at Lake Como, contains rare and exotic species.

The path ends at Loppia fraction, a charming small fishermen village.

Villa Carlotta (Tremezzo)

You can get there: by boat from Bellagio town center dock

An italian garden style park developing around the villa which can be visited.

The building usually hosts art shows, its original furniture and various sculptures can be viewed walking through.

Castle Vezio (Varenna)

You can there: by ferry and by walk from Varenna

Just 10 minutes by walk in the upper part of Varenna, in the small fraction of Vezio.

Surrounded by a characteristic village, castle entrance is allowed by paid ticket.

You’ll be able to visit the castle remains and assist to an included falconry show, a breathtaking panoramic view opens from the walls and the tower looking on the lake and Bellagio promontory.

Villa Balbianello (Lenno)

You can get here: by ferry

Fabulous villa, erected at the end of the 18th century, known worldwide especially as a location for weddings and set where it was filmed a scene in “Star Wars Attack of the Clones” episode, standing on Lavedo promontory it offers a magnificent view at the lake and Lenno bay.

Both gardens and villa interiors are open to the public.
